Located on a lot owned by local realtor Lassie MacDonald, the inaugural VeggieCommons-installed garden can be found on University Dr. Begun during the Spring of 2011, the garden was the collaboration of a small group of women gardeners, learning-by-doing. The garden has been affectionately named, “Friendship Garden.”
In its first season, the garden yield supplied veggies to a farm stand, the lot owner, numerous neighbors, and the lucky gardeners themselves!
Check back soon for photo details as well as stories highlighting the community-benefits (not to mention nutritional benefits) of “growing food where we live”!
Take a look at owner, Lassie MacDonald’s conversation with me (Dana) about the origin and benefits of sharing her garden. A short video showing the farmstand notes follows.
